I read an interesting news article today that made me realize how important it is for us as Americans to ensure our computers are not infected with viruses or any other malware that could bring physical harm to the US. Imagine malware on your computer that could cause the melt down of your city’s nuclear power plant. Would you want to be responsible for that? Well it is possible and a new worm called Stuxnet has been found to be one of the first of it’s kind.
Industrial control systems experts now have concluded, after nearly four months spent reverse engineering Stuxnet, that the world faces a new breed of malware that could become a template for attackers wishing to launch digital strikes at physical targets worldwide. -Source: http://news.yahoo.com/
Think about how easily we could all prevent this from happening to us in our own country. All we have to do is keep our computers clean to prevent this new form of terrorism. If you think you are protected from every virus or malware infection because you have an AntiVirus program, think again and check the fine print of your software agreement. There is no single AntiVirus software that offers 100% protection 100% of the time.
Malware can render your protection software useless and block it from detecting some of the most harmful of viruses. Your computer can be infected between scans as well. Most scans are only done once a day or even just once a week. We should all make it our responsibility to know our computers, the software that’s installed, and how to protect them from infection.
